Leah Ortiz

Dr. Leah Napolitano Ortiz is originally from Franklin Lakes, New Jersey.  She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Notre Dame in 1994.  Upon graduation from Notre Dame, she spent the next year studying and analyzing the use of MRIs in detecting breast cancer in high-risk women at the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  In a decision to change her career path, she attended the Bryn Mawr College Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.  

Dr. Ortiz then attended the MCP Hahnemann School of Medicine (currently known as Drexel University College of Medicine) in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. She graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha Honors and received the Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement Citation from the American Medical Women’s Association. After graduating from medical school, Dr. Ortiz attended the Overlook Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program in Summit, New Jersey.  

Upon completing her residency, she went into private practice for the last 7 years in New Jersey.  While in private practice, Dr. Ortiz had an affiliation with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey as a Clerkship Professor.  She educated 3rd and 4th year medical students in their family medicine rotations.  Dr Ortiz is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Medicine. Dr. Ortiz and her husband moved to Granger, Indiana in 2011.  Wanting to pursue her desire to teach, she joined our faculty in 2012. She has an interest in pediatrics and adolescent medicine as well as women’s health and preventative medicine. Leah and her husband, Robert, have two daughters and two sons.
